A scalding, uplifting masterpiece about faith and family, the gulf between men and women, and fathers and sons.
Set in a Harlem storefront church, complete with gospel choir, James Baldwins The Amen Corner is a scalding, uplifting masterpiece about faith and family, about the gulf between men and women and fathers and sons. Sister Margaret Alexander is determined to hold onto the reigns of her congregation as she deals with a band of rebellious church members, the return of her estranged husband, and her sons desire to be a jazz musician.
Acclaimed director Andrea Frye helms James Baldwins The Amen Corner, and she calls on some of Atlantas rich and vibrant gospel voices to provide the uplifting vocal backdrop for the intense unfolding drama. The Amen Corner will be presented during the 2008 National Black Arts Festival, celebrating 20 years of art and culture.en
