Constructing History: A Requiem to Mark the Moment, opening reception and conversation
Please join us as artist Carrie Mae Weems walks us through her inspiration and experience of creating Constructing History: A Requiem to Mark the Moment. The reception and artist conversation will begin at 6:30 pm on July 15th at SCAD ACA Gallery at Woodruff Arts Center.
In poetic form, Artist Carrie Mae Weems explores the human rights movement, both in the United States and abroad, from Newark to Natchez, from California to Cambodia, from South Africa to South American in Requiem Marks the Moment. Requiem, in glimpse, flashbacks, through memory impressions, using film clips, video, photographs and song, revisits and re-stages the human effort in its struggle for freedom, for the right to be in the face of forces that would deny that right. Constructing History: A Requiem to Mark the Moment is a commission made possible by the National Black Arts Festival and the Savannah College of Art and Design. Exhibit
